The Los Angeles City Guide

Welcome to the city of angel.
So I thought it was time to write a complete city guide about traveling to LA and the area because I went there around 10 times now and I have seen, tried, eaten, visited a tones of things.
I now consider Los Angeles as my second home. Indeed, I’ve met amazing people through the years. I remember, the first time I came was around 10 years ago now, time flies !! My parents sent me away for 3 weeks in order to practice my English, and I fell in love with the lifestyle, the people, the landscape, I mean pretty much everything.
And even after 10 times, I still have places to visit, new places to eat, or even things I’ve already done but I love to do each time I come. This city and the area always have a lot to offer.
So first, let’s talk about the airfare. Depending on when you take it, and for which period of time, it goes from 450 euros to 1400 euros departure from Paris. It’s around 12 hours travelling total.
About the stay, I’ve been to different places through my travels. Before I got 18, I stayed with friends of my parents, then after I’ve experienced different places.
Airbnb is really cool, I always had really good hosts. Best area to stay is clearly West Hollywood.
About the hotels I’ve tried, here are the ones I recommend :
Mondrian Hotel
Mama Shelter
Dream Hollywood
About how to move around, well as you may know, California do not really have public transportations, every people have a car. So you should consider about renting a car on your arrival for your whole stay. That way, you can visit and do way more stuff.
If you can’t, you still have the Uber option, but it can be really expensive at the end. Even if it’s really affordable compare to France, distances are not the same as in France. You can easily drive for 2 hours to visit something. If you don’t want to get « stuck » in LA, and I really advise you to visit other places around, you can end spending a lot of money in Uber.

Universal studio
The place I always have to spend a day each time I am off to LA and I never get tired of it. It’s really always nice to see where famous movies have been filmed, also, so many rides, so many activities, trust me, a lot of fun !
Hollywood walk of fame
The famous road where you can see these pink stars with the name of famous people on the floor, many entertainments, gift shops, shopping center, museums such has « madame Tussauds » or very famous movie theater « TCL Chinese theater »
A day in Venice / Santa Monica / Marina del Rey
Just rent a bike and make stops wherever you feel like to. Start your trip from Santa Monica pier, and take the cycle paths. On your way, you absolutely have to make a stop in Venice, go threw the local shops, walk around the beach and Venice canals, go and have a look on the Venice beach skate park that you saw if you have watched 90210, stop by the basket ball court and the Venice Muscle beach. Then keep going straight to Marina del Rey with your bike, the area is beautiful !
A day in Malibu
There, I would recommend to go to Surfrider Beach, Zuma Beach, Malibu Lagoon State Beach, Paradise Cove Beach, Point Dume State Beach and El Matador beach to chill (Okay a lot of beaches, but at least, you have a choice haha). Then you can visit the Getty village, the Adamson House, the Malibu Lagoon Museum, the Serra retreat, the Malibu Hindu Temple, Paramount Ranch, you can walk around the Creek State Park. You might not be able to do everything in a day, so just have a look on internet on what you are more up to.
A day in New Port / Laguna Beach
I guess the nicest beach I went to. Mostly laguna beach, this beach is just unbelievably beautiful.
A day to Catalina Island
This Island…. OMG you absolutely need to spend at least a day there, trust me, it worth the detour. To get there, you can take the Catalina Express from Long Beach.
Scuba diving, hiking, kayaking, paddleboarding, lay at the beach … So much cool things to do. I won’t say more 😉
Melrose Road
This long street where you can find all famous colored walls you saw on Instagram, also so many cute shops and coffee places.
Rodeo drive / Beverly Hills sign
This place is just so beautiful, and it’s where you will find all the luxury store. You can also walk around the streets over there, houses are just amazing.
Griffith park / Observatory
For the panoramic view of LA
The Hollywood hike
So you have different options. So can either do the entire hike to the Hollywood sign, and you will and up behind the big letters of HOLLYWOOD with a beautiful view of LA. Or if you are lazy, like I usually am when it’s hot, just drive to “3000 canyon drive”, walk around and you can find different nice spot where you can take really nice picture with the sign behind.
The broad
A contemporary art museum in downtown LA with a free general admission and an active program of rotating exhibition. The only museum I always do each time I am in los Angeles.
Located on Wilshire boulevard, it is the largest museum in the West US. It is an art museum and it also features film and concert series.

Such a girly and beautiful museum, you absolutely need to go there.
Two themes parks. It is the only park designed and built to completion under the direct supervision of Walt Disney. It’s soooooo huge and fairy. You must go there at least once, even if you had done it already in an other city.
Dodgers game
You can not end your trip without going at least, once, see a dodger game. Watch the game, eat nachos and hotdogs, drink beer and even if you don’t know anything about baseball, scream when people scream hahaha.
Huntington Library
The most beautiful botanical garden I have ever done ! Really, it’s so worth it
Self realization fellowship lake shrine
If you are looking for a peaceful place, this is absolutely where you have to go
Mulholland Drive
This road is beautiful, drive through it and make a stop to Mulholland Scenic Overview, it’s amazing
Glen Ivy Hot Springs
Relax during a whole day in this amazing spa, in the middle of nowhere. Only an hour driving from LA.
